Steps to Learning Success

At The School of Fish, regardless of age group, we follow the steps below to develop, communicate and execute our early education curriculum. In addition to the learning objectives identified within MSDE approved curriculum, The School of Fish works to provide a progressive set of supports and goals as children develop within the program.

Step 1

Identifying Developmental Goals and Trusted Resources

Using the Maryland Department of Education approved curriculums, Healthy Beginnings and Creative Curriculum, The School of Fish plans an annual curriculum and daily lessons that are age-appropriate with research-based methods and objectives. We encourage our families to learn more about the foundations of these programs online HERE. The School of Fish also utilizes the National Association for the Education of Young Children to guide our curriculum.

Step 2

Lesson Planning & Communication

With the Tadpoles app and The School of Fish ThinkTank, our educators are able to connect families with learning in the classroom and at-home. Tadpoles enables parents and educators to communicate throughout the day. Plus, at the end of each day parents receive pictures, food, nap, and bathroom logs alongside that day’s learning activities. The ThinkTank is our blog offering at-home learning inspiration, parenting hacks, industry news and local happenings. We encourage parents and teachers in Anne Arundel County, MD and beyond to utilize this resource regardless of enrollment.

Step 3

Classroom Learning & Improvements

Using the principles of S.T.E.A.M. learning and the W.A.V.E. Stages learning method, planned and spur of the moment learning takes place at The School of Fish. As children are taught, it is important our educators value the feedback from each learning activity. As we aim to create an innovative program, we evaluate what was more and less beneficial to create improvements to that and future lessons.
